Uma equipa de cirurgiões russos descobriu com surpresa uma árvore que crescia dentro do pulmão de um paciente. Segundo o jornal «Globo» o homem de 28 anos estava na mesa de operações para que lhe fosse retirado o que os médicos acreditavam ser um tumor. No entanto, quando o abriram, descobriram uma planta de cerca de 5 centímetros que crescia no pulmão.

O paciente queixava-se de dores no peito e tossia sangue. O sangue que o paciente expelia não era de um tumor maligno, mas de lesões provocadas pelas agulhas das folhas.

Os médicos acreditam que o homem tenha inalado uma semente de um abeto - uma árvore conífera comum na América do Norte, Ásia e Europa -, que depois começou a crescer no pulmão.
